Saratoga, New York 1777 Battle Map

The Saratoga Campaign, fought over two battles in September and October 1777 in the same vicinity in upstate New York, ended in a decisive American victory that convinced the French to support the American cause. Many historians consider this victory the turning point of the American Revolution. General Burgoyne surrendered his entire army to the Continentals on 19 October 1777. One of the Americans gaining glory and fame from this battle, Benedict Arnold, would later betray his country to the British and go down as one of the worst traitors in American history.

This map shows the locations of American and British troops on 10 September 1777, 9 days before the first engagement.
