The Battle of Fort Stevens was fought 11-12 July 1864 inside the District of Columbia (Northwest). The battle did not have any major assaults but rather a set of skirmishes. The historical importance of this engagement was President Lincoln personally rode out and observed the battle, in which the President did come under fire from the Confederates.
