Fortress Monroe, Virginia 1861 Color Drawing


Also known as Fort Monroe, this fort  at the tip of the Virginia Peninsula has the rare distinction of a fort in a Confederate state that was held by the Union for the entire Civil War. Confederate President Jefferson Davis was imprisoned at the Fortress after the war for two years. 

This color drawing looks north towards the fortress also emphasizing the Hyseia Hotel.
