The Battle of New Orleans was fought from 14 December 1814 to 18 January 1815 with the decisive engagement on 8 January 1815. The Treaty of Ghent, which ended the war, was signed on 24 December 1814 in Ghent, United Netherlands (current day Belgium), but the news did not arrive until after the British withdrew and the battle won by the Americans.
